About The hobson

Housed inside the former Kokomo City Building in the heart of downtown Kokomo, The Hobson is one of north-central Indiana’s most distinctive wedding venues, seamlessly blending historic architecture with sophisticated modern design. Housed inside the former Kokomo City Building, a striking Richardsonian Romanesque landmark built in 1893, the venue has been thoughtfully restored to preserve its original character while transforming it into a refined space for contemporary weddings.

One of the first things couples notice about The Hobson is its unique combination of history and elegance. Original stonework, soaring ceilings, exposed architectural details, and carefully curated finishes create an atmosphere that feels both timeless and current. Throughout the venue, vintage-inspired décor is paired with modern amenities, resulting in a space that photographs beautifully from every angle. Whether your wedding style is classic black tie, modern romantic, or somewhere in between, The Hobson provides a versatile backdrop that complements virtually any design vision.

Couples are drawn to The Hobson because it offers the convenience of hosting nearly every part of the wedding day in one beautifully designed location. Private luxury suites provide comfortable spaces for getting ready, allowing the excitement of the morning to unfold without leaving the venue. The ballroom flows naturally into an elegant bar and lounge area, creating an inviting layout for cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing. The venue comfortably accommodates up to approximately 175 guests, making it an excellent choice for intimate celebrations as well as larger wedding days.

The open ballroom offers plenty of flexibility for personalized layouts, while the adjoining lounge creates additional gathering space that keeps guests connected throughout the evening. Couples also appreciate the venue’s inclusive approach, with amenities such as day-of coordination, tables, chairs, linens, and dedicated preparation suites helping simplify the planning process.

As a wedding photographer, The Hobson stands out because every space has been designed with both beauty and functionality in mind. The dramatic architecture provides elegant backdrops for portraits, while the historic exterior adds character that simply can’t be recreated in a newer venue. Inside, the grand ballroom offers beautiful symmetry and timeless architectural details that elevate reception photographs. The vintage-inspired lounge, complete with rich wallpaper and brass accents, creates a sophisticated setting for candid moments, while the luxury suites provide clean, thoughtfully designed spaces for getting-ready photographs.

Some of my favorite portrait locations include the historic stone exterior, the dramatic ballroom, the elegant lounge and bar, and the outdoor pergola. Each area offers a different look and feel, allowing couples to enjoy a diverse gallery without ever leaving the property. Because the venue combines indoor and outdoor spaces, it’s also an excellent choice throughout the year, providing beautiful options regardless of the season or weather.

Beyond its stunning architecture, what truly makes The Hobson memorable is the experience it creates. The venue feels warm, welcoming, and intentionally designed for celebration. Its blend of historic charm, modern luxury, and attentive service allows couples to relax and fully enjoy their wedding day while surrounded by family and friends.

For couples searching for a venue that combines timeless architecture, refined style, and the convenience of hosting their entire celebration in one location, The Hobson is one of Indiana’s hidden gems. Every wedding here feels elegant yet personal, and it’s a venue I’m always excited to photograph because it consistently provides beautiful light, exceptional spaces, and unforgettable moments.
